Showers are predicted today for parts of Florida Louisiana Mississippi Alabama and surrounding areas. The forecast calls for unsettled conditions with scattered showers likely inland and along coastal zones, with variable rain chances through the day. Highs are expected in the 70s to 80s Fahrenheit across the region.
Valley residents can expect a sunny day with high temperatures in the mid 80s. Tonight will be fair with overnight lows in the 60s. Friday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 80s and light winds.

Virginia is one of 20 states targeted by the national Democratic Party for 1984 gains. Chairman Charles Manatt spoke to about 150 Democrats in Richmond, noting Virginia will host an election seminar for party staff and that the state is key as it holds elections this year. The party aims to expand seats in both the U.S. Senate and House next year, while Gov. Robb’s candidacy remains uncertain.
Bridgewater College computing center manager Ted W. Flory will present a paper on Shared Libraries at a San Francisco conference. The work discusses technology enabling multiple users to share programs, boosting computer system efficiency. Flory, a Bridgewater graduate and assistant professor, earned a UVA master's and has led the center since 1970.
Lanny Branner of Harrisonburg was elected treasurer of the Virginia District Exchange Clubs at the state convention at Ingleside Inn. He has held all Harrisonburg club offices and served two years as district director for Division 7. The club earned awards for youth service Americanism community service and club bulletin.
In Roanoke AP report Virginia lawmakers clash over creating the nine member intermediate court of appeals approved earlier. Senator Dudley Emick pledges to repeal the act and push for a larger Supreme Court and divided divisions to handle rising caseloads. Officials cite cost estimates from 2.8 million to 10 million annually and warn of indirect costs to lawyers and indigent defense.

The FAA proposes easing limits on the Dulles Access Road allowing two person commuter vehicles during peak hours. Current four person minimum would be lowered until the toll lanes open in October 1984, with the change taking effect in September.
