Showers Mark Summer's First Day in Shenandoah Valley
After a 97 degree surge to end spring, scattered Sunday afternoon showers cooled the Shenandoah Valley. A Saturday night downpour canceled a Valley League baseball game. Mayland saw strong winds moving a house trailer, blowing trees onto US 259. Fire crews reported no injuries as they cleared wreckage and directed traffic. Three quarters of an inch of rain was measured in May.

Weekend Crashes Leave Eleven Hurt In Rockingham County
Two one car crashes in Rockingham County injure four people including Clifton Evans 28 and Holmes Shoemaker 29. A two car crash near Brandywine Virginia line east of Harrisonburg injures seven, with Kyra and Greer Winthrop St Gery 18 and 16 among the injured. Evans forehead lacerations. victims taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The incident occurred about 4 p.m. Saturday. The sisters were passengers in a car driven by Rick Winthrop St Gery 45 from Herndon.

Shenandoah House Hit By Lightning Storm Blaze
A lightning strike during a Sunday storm gutted the Lucas family home on Sixth Street Shenandoah. Mr and Mrs Clarence Lucas and three of their five children escaped unharmed as Shenandoah Fire Co battled the blaze amid downed trees and heavy rain. The couple work in Arlington and Shenandoah. The family plans to live with Mrs Patsy Campbell in Elkton while awaiting rebuild.
