The wedding of Miss Bettie Christine Ford of Winchester and Gordon Osler White of the University of Virginia occurred Saturday at 4 p.m. at Luray Street Baptist Church. The ceremony featured a double ring rite led by Rev. Morris Cather with a seed-pearl capped veil. The couple planned a future in Charlottesville with a southern honeymoon.
Miss Shirley Jean Hansberger daughter of Mr and Mrs Lester Hansberger of Mr Jackson wed Charles Webster Miller son of Mrs Jesse Miller of Quicksburg on Sunday June 9 at two in the Mt Jackson Methodist Church. Rev B L Lock and Rev J B Jenkins officiated with palms and white floral backdrop. After the ceremony nuptial music by Miss India Landis. Bride wore an imported white embroidered organdy gown with a nylon veil and pearl jewelry. She carried a white Bible with a white orchid. Maid of honor was Miss Fay Hansberger in blue organdy. Best man was Everett Litten. The couple will reside in Timberville after a Florida wedding trip. The bride is a 1953 Triplet High School graduate. groom attended New Market High. He works at Shen Valley Meats, Timberville. The Timber Ridge H D Club meets Monday at 1 30 at Mrs Robert Early’s home for a postponed meeting on consumer credit facts.
The Mt. Jackson Garden Club held its annual picnic on the lawn of Dr and Mrs Mason Reger on Broad Street. About thirty five members attended. President Mrs Warren Richardson announced the July meeting will be at Mrs Warren Good Jr home on July 17. The sunset viewed from the Reger residence made a fitting backdrop for the gathering.

The marriage of Miss Mary Louise Musser daughter of Rev and Mrs Raymond Eugene Musser of Salem and Laurence Donald Brown was solemnized June 14 at Salem Central Methodist Church. The couple will reside in Urbana Illinois after September first with a Cape Cod Maine honeymoon preceding eight weeks at Denmark Maine.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Blant of Luray and New York announce the engagement of their daughter Mrs Margot Carol Blant Temple to Malcolm V Hoare son of Vincent Robert Hoare of London and the late Mrs Hoare. The wedding will take place in London at the end of July.
Linville WCTU will meet Monday at 7 45 for its regular meeting in the home of Mrs Elmer Terry.
Dr and Mrs Glenn Gildersleeve of Harrisonburg announce the engagement of their daughter Charlotte to Duane Kenneth Bransttter son of Mrs Louis Barnes of Bloomfield Neb and Kenneth A Bransttter of Port Townsend Wash Charlotte attended Richmond Professional Institute Bransttter served in the Air Force and will graduate from Wayne State Teachers College Wayne Neb in January An August wedding is planned.
Mr and Mrs Grover Alger were honored with a housewarming at their Elkton area home by the Reliable Bible Class of Bethel Congregational Christian Church. The couple received many useful gifts. Attending were Mr and Mrs Alger honor guests and a long list of friends including Mrs H M Dofflemyer and family, Mrs Thelma Rebstock, Mr and Mrs C A Meadows, Mrs Richard Bloxom, Mrs Carl Dofflemyer, Mrs Granville Life, Mrs Ray Jenkins, Mr and Mrs Elwood Wright, Mrs D H Alger, Mrs W H Alger, Mrs Lacy Monger, Mrs James Frazier, and Lois Jean and Dofflemyer, Carolyn and Edward Wright.
Mt Zion YTC held its monthly meeting at Mt Zion Church of the Brethren. Jo Ann Cramn led devotions on the theme Christian Fellowship with J Robert Shoemaker Donnie Smith Betty and Richard Shoemaker participating. Rockingham YTC picnic set for Plains District Memorial Park June 28 with games led by Jo Ann Kline and refreshments served for ten members.
The Rev. and Mrs. Frank L. Fesperman of Mt. Jackson host a weeklong visit by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wessel and Laurie of Webster Groves Missouri. Mrs Wessel is Mrs Fesperman’s daughter and Mr Wessel runs a department store in St. Louis. This marks their first visit here.
At the New Market Garden Club meeting hosted by Mrs. John Rice and Miss Emily Snapp, members heard a paper titled History of the Rose by Mrs. William J. Miller of Westfield New Jersey presented by Mrs. Ralph Bingham of New Market. Exhibits included rose compositions and horticulture specimens with ribbons awarded for a blue rose composition and a red day lily specimen. The club approved a five dollar donation to a National Federation of Garden Clubs building fund.
Col and Mrs William G Myers celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Belle Meade. Daughters Mrs Lloyd Blose and Mrs Ralph Aldhizer hosted.
Mrs. R. B. Miller and Mrs. Billy Rubush hosted a Sunday birthday dinner at Greenmount for family members with June birthdays. Guests included Luther Gow and Skip of Alexandria, Eddie Walters, the Millers of Waynesboro, and W. L. Rubush.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Grottoes Church of the Brethren met at Mrs Talford Good home. Lena Smith led the devotional and Don Fancher presided over the business session with C D Good handling the treasurer’s report. They approved funds for redecorating Sunday School rooms and discussed work projects. Eight members were served refreshments.
Miss Carol Geneva Miller, daughter of Mr and Mrs John A Miller of Rileyville, plans a fall wedding to George Edgar Seely, son of Mr and Mrs Henry H Seely of Penndel PA. She studied at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and Bridgewater College and has taught music in Madison County elementary schools. Seely is a salesman in Philadelphia.
Misses Linda Louise Miller and Beverly Jo Dove traveled to Charlottesville on Wednesday to attend Girls Auxiliary Missionary Camp at Viewmont, six miles from Charlottesville. The camp hosts 125 girls from auxiliaries across Virginia. They were accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Miller and Mrs. Nelson Dove, and will spend the week at the camp. Mr. and Mrs. Travis Acker and daughter Betty Jean of Haddon Field were also mentioned in the note.
In Virginia Beach a Jeep parachuted from an Air Force plane landed on the roof of Gov. Thomas B. Stanley's summer cottage at Camp Pendleton during an Army Navy Air Force amphibious exercise. No one was inside the cottage. the vehicle stayed until an Army crane removed it. Spectators included Naval Academy midshipmen, Canadian cadets, Marine and Army units, and NSIA members with NATO lawmakers observing the finale. About 550 West Point cadets also watched after briefing at Little Creek.
Mrs. Ruth Propst, Johnnie and Scott of Dayton were guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Winslow at Silver Springs Maryland last week.
N. Jersey guests have arrived to spend a week with Mrs. Margaret Acker, mother of local resident Mr. Acker. Sandra and Chucky Dingledine of Harrisonburg are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Funk and Shelby Jean while their parents are in Baltimore.
Richmond June 21 Governor Stanley rejected a mercy plea from Roland Ealey for Lloyd Junius Dobie 26 Negro condemned to die for raping a white woman in a Franklin theatre office. After a brief hearing the governor took the matter under advisement citing no information to justify interference with the trial court's sentence. Dobie was convicted November 11 1955 and his execution was set for January 20 1956 but stayed for an appeal and the State Supreme Court refused to overturn the conviction.
