Court Rules On Synthetic Drugs

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that prosecutors must prove defendants knew a substance was prohibited to convict of selling synthetic drugs. Stephen McFadden of New York City challenged a 2013 conviction under the Analogue Enforcement Act for supplying bath salts named Speed No Speed and The New Up to a Charlottesville store. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the majority opinion.

Making Waves at Westover Pool World Record Attempt

About 100 children swam at Westover Pool in Harrisonburg hoping to set the World's Largest Swim Lesson record. The event, tied to World Waterpark Association and global participation, promotes swim safety as WHO notes drowning as a top child risk. CTB approves data driven funding method for Virginia projects

Virginia lawmakers adopt a new data driven scoring system to prioritize transportation funding starting in fiscal year 2017. Gov. Terry McAuliffe says the aim is to fund projects offering the greatest return on investment by reducing congestion and boosting growth. The plan follows House Bill 2 and aligns with VTrans 2040 and HB 1887.

Rockingham County to receive funding for Reservoir Street widening plan

The Six-Year Improvement Program approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board allocates 500000 to Rockingham County for the Reservoir Street widening project in fiscal year 2016, with a required equal county match. The 4.1 million project would expand the two lane road to a four lane divided highway between the city limits and Stone Spring Road, supplementing 3.1 million already received.
