He backs coal slurry pipelines with eminent domain and predicts action on the bill this year. He notes coal will remain needed but calls for balanced regulation and environment-friendly solutions.
The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority spent 375000 to add over 200 acres to Bull Run Regional Park. Rezoned to five acre housing lots, the land reduces future development near the park and tightens a buffer for the busy swimming pools campgrounds and picnics along the Bull Run. The park spans about 25 miles from I 66 to I 95 along the Occoquan Creek where Civil War battles occurred.
A Prince William County jury sentenced Marine sergeant Timothy Dale Bunch to death for robbing, shooting, and hanging Su Cha Thomas on Jan. 31, 1982, while on leave from Japan. The Virginia Supreme Court upheld the death sentence, ruling the facts showed depravity of mind and noting Bunch planned the murder with larcenous intent after drinking wine and listening to music as Thomas lay dying.
The Virginia Supreme Court split 4 3 upholding the death sentence for John Joseph LeVasseur in a Prince William County murder during a robbery. Dissenters said the trial judge denied an impartial jury when he halted a drug defense question. A separate Prince William case upheld Timothy Dale Bunch’s death for the January 31 murder of Sacha Thomas in Dale City.
The Virginia Supreme Court refused to lift an order barring Mayor Roy West from voting on three Richmond School Board appointments. The ruling may leave the City Council with a 4-4 split and leaves unresolved whether West has a conflict of interest. West denies revenge motives and says he represents broader black concerns amid disputes with Superintendent Hunter and the school board.
