Widespread Outages After Central Shenandoah Valley Storms
Thunderstorms swept the central Shenandoah Valley delivering heavy rain and marble sized hail. Wind and lightning caused thousands to lose power across Virginia with Virginia Power reporting over 64,000 outages. Harrisonburg areas and Western Augusta County were hit hardest as trees fell and properties suffered damage while stations went off air. Elkton to pay county for dispatching for one year only
Elkton will fund Rockingham County Sheriff for police dispatching in the next fiscal year but will not be charged long term. Town Manager Gerald Monger said the sheriff assured future treatment like other county towns not billed for the service. The move comes after Elkton ended 24 hour dispatch and amid concerns it could require part time staff.
