Extended period through Tuesday shows partly cloudy humid weather with a chance of showers or thunderstorms mainly Monday and Tuesday. Highs mid 80s to low 90s and lows around 60s.

Regional forecast notes a warm trend across Virginia with partly cloudy skies today and highs in the 80s, followed by mostly sunny and humid conditions Sunday. West Virginia expects partly cloudy weather with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs in the 80s to 90, and very warm humidity into Sunday.
Heavy storms caused flash flooding across central and eastern Ohio northern West Virginia and western Pennsylvania. In Shadyside Belmont County several houses were washed away and about 35 buildings damaged along Wegee Creek. Rescue crews found bodies in water and cars, with a temporary morgue set up in Shadyside and National Guardsmen sent to search creeks through the night.
Shenandoah and Rockingham jail officials report ongoing smuggling of marijuana alcohol and hard liquor into facilities. Inmates devise methods from commode liquor to improvised ropes and improvised containers while staff deploy screens ultraviolet checks and strict visit rules. Despite efforts most smuggling occurs only rarely now and prosecutions remain infrequent.
Ronald Craig Wolf, a former Airman with a security clearance, was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole for attempting to transfer national defense information to the Soviet Union. FBI agents had begun investigating in 1989 after an undercover operation. Wolf planned to defect at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to meet a Soviet contact.
Miners loyal to President Iliescu attacked ranks of opponents in Bucharest after a police crackdown on the 53 day protest in University Square. Ion Ratiu and other leaders were assaulted as police and army watched. At least five people died and hundreds were injured as demonstrators clamored for political change and a ban on former Communist leaders from public office.
