Norfolk police arrested 24 year old Joann Rossi of Pawtucket Rhode Island on charges she murdered her 4 year old son last year. The boy was last seen around Thanksgiving and his remains were found in Swansea Massachusetts. Police say a boyfriend led to the body and prompted the arrest.
Ed McAteer founder of the Religious Roundtable spoke at a Bristol rally backing public school Bible classes amid a federal suit led by City Councilman Sam Crockett and wife Sally. The case against Bristol Virginia School Board and officials goes to trial June 27 in Abingdon. The event, aimed at fundraising for the Bible Defense Fund, reported over 44 thousand dollars raised toward a hundred thousand dollar goal. A prayer vigil is planned during the four day trial.
Riverside AP report: Superior Court Judge David Hennigan dismissed Ronald DeWolf's claim that L Ron Hubbard was dead or incompetent. The ruling followed Hubbard's 30 week old declaration stating he is alive and in seclusion, with threats claimed against him and assets managed properly. The judge allowed three weeks to challenge the document's authenticity.
In Norfolk AP report the Presbyterian Church in America elected L B Austin III of Chattanooga Tennessee as moderator to succeed Laird Harris. The 1973 formed denomination now numbers about 130000 members in 805 congregations with roughly 1000 attending its five day meeting at the Omni International Hotel.
Gregory Allan Whetzel and David Airley Whetzel, both of Broadway, are charged with breaking into John A. Houle's home around June 3 and stealing a .357 pistol a .22 rifle stereo components a gold watch and coins. Roy L. Royer and William Stuart Turner are charged with receiving stolen property.
