Board Member Withdraws Children Over Desegregation Plan
Alexandria School Board member Dr. Erwin A. Bondareff will pull three of his five children from public schools, saying the elementary desegregation plan will lower educational quality. The 43 year old pediatrician, seeking reelection, noted he will enroll his children in private schools this fall, per the Washington Post. He opposed the bus plan adopted May 14 that racially balances the 15 elementaries, a 5-4 vote, and replaces his minimal action proposal.
