Improving The Airwaves In Harrisonburg Virginia
Harrisonburg City Council has approved nearly 750000 dollars for upgrading the Harrisonburg Rockingham Emergency Communications Center radio system. The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors is set to vote next week. ECC Director Jim Jenkins said a Harris Corp contract must be signed by June 20 to secure a nearly 800000 dollar discount from the 6.2 million price. The upgrade needs 4 million dollars, including 100000 for consulting, with 2.6 million from the ECC fund balance and 748000 from the city and county each. The 2016 deadline remains due to discontinued equipment from a decade old $20 million project. The system aims for better efficiency and direct dialogue with Virginia State Police. Harris also conditioned payment timing.
