Showers are predicted today for parts of Virginia Kentucky Tennessee the Carolinas Georgia Alabama Mississippi and Arkansas. Most of the rest of the nation should experience fair weather.

McManus 62 of Tazewell, sub district director of the Mine Safety and Health Administration, on charges of obstructing justice and inducing a subordinate to sign a false statement. Newport News health investigators ordered a stop to clean-out work at Cheatham Annex tank farm after a crew reported headaches nosebleeds and coughing blood while removing sludge from Tank 134 in 21-tank facility. Officials will test sludge air and electrical setups as two state agencies review safety and disposal procedures.
A section of US 1 in Prince William County caved in due to a cavity under the Powell's Creek bridge approach slab. No injuries or vehicle damage reported. Inside lanes closed while repairs proceed. outside lanes open. Estimated repair cost about 2000 dollars.
Richmond AP reports correction on new state rules requiring one yearly inspection. New cars bought since July 1, 1981 carry 12 month stickers and must be reinspected in the sticker month. Other vehicles have six month stickers. inspections follow the expiration date unless plate decals expire in early 1983, then inspection may occur with the plate expiry month.
