Bitter stormy session as White and Colored delegates from the South debate at a Montreal convention. Railway postal clerks press for full recognition within their Brotherhood. movement described amid tense discourse.
Colonel Be. T. Brown owner of Caverns near New Market writes to Rockingham County Board urging a new road from the Valley Turnpike to the caverns. He proposes the middle route as shortest and safest and offers to pay about half the costs and to fund a bridge across Smith's Creek at his own expense.
At Montreal the American Federation of Labor voted to grant full membership to black workers, abolishing the white only clause. The decision came after a volatile session with Southern delegates and black representatives, and threats to penalize unions resisting integration.
A special Hose Company No 4 meeting announced a big lawn party and open air ball to run Friday and Saturday nights July 9 and 10 with special prizes and music by a band and orchestra. Harrisonburg Fire Dept Committee signs the notice.
Stonewall Lodge No. 31 of the Knights of Pythias calls a full attendance for tonight at 8 o'clock. Members urged to attend and participate in the lodge session.
Congressman T. W. Harrison supported a bill for collective marketing by farmers, seen as a substitute for the Capper Heineman measure. Chicago June 10 Senator Johnson forecasts the Republican candidate will be nominated tomorrow. He calls the league plank presented for ratification with specific reservations and says there is no request for Ratification of the league of nations. He expresses confidence in initial delegations and eventual accessions, insisting he remains very confident of success.
Bruce Sterling of Uniontown was elected State Chairman and Sedwick Keller of Lock Haven was re elected treasurer by the Democratic State Committee in Harrisburg. Attorney General Palmer spoke for a party claiming victory in November and said Pennsylvania will play a potent role in national politics after the Baltimore convention.

Chicago June 10 to 11 Republicans end party rift over the league of nations by adopting a platform drafted by Elihu Root and proceed to nominate a candidate the next day. The platform condemns Wilsons covenant and supports international justice and a peace concert while preserving U S independence. Delegates push toward a rapid nominating ballot with sessions scheduled to finish the process.
Richmond Virginia June 10 The State Department of Health calls for a drop in typhoid cases this year urging safe water, proper waste disposal and fly control. Health workers warn heat season June August increases spread and emphasize immunization and vigilant travel hygiene due to contaminated water milk or food risks.
Virginia reports 1,821 smallpox cases in the first four months of 1920 with six deaths, a sharp rise from 1919. Southwest Virginia, especially Wise County, accounts for most cases as officials urge vaccination and stricter inoculation measures to curb the outbreak.

The Georgia delegation confirmed Henry Lincoln Johnson as a member of the Republican national committee from Georgia. Johnson, an Atlanta Negro, received twelve votes while Roscoe Pickett, a white man, had three. Senator Lodge announced Johnson elected amid affirming ayes.
Edinburg voters chose Mayor J. T. Lemmon and council members Hugh Saum Harry Hisey William Murray Louie Swann Geo Irvin and Charles Stoneburner. The ballots determined leadership for the forthcoming term.
