The forecast calls for favorable conditions in Oregon and California with largely fair weather. Elsewhere, national outlook suggests continued pleasant conditions with minimal precipitation and light winds expected in many regions.

Former Jackson city commissioner Edward L. Cates, a 54 year old lawyer and Army Reserve brigadier general, was arrested in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on murder and arson charges for allegedly setting a car fire to fake his own death. Police believe he killed another person and disposed of the body in the burning vehicle, with an embezzlement probe also possible.
A Virginia advisory board recommended creating a Virginia Register listing proposed agency regulation changes and a calendar of meetings and hearings. The bi weekly publication would include executive orders and adopted and proposed rules, with libraries receiving free copies and subscriptions sold to users.
The State Board for Community Colleges interviewed six candidates behind closed doors for the chancellor vacancy, including former chancellor Dana B. Hamel. Other candidates and the screening committees were described, with a June 30 deadline for appointment. A Northern Virginia Community College faculty letter opposed Hamel, citing a dissertation attribution dispute. Hamel said he was cleared of charges.
