AP wirephoto reports parts of Missouri and Kentucky seeing weather conditions while the majority of the nation enjoys fair skies. The notice notes regional variations with stable temperatures and light winds expected across the central states.
Partly sunny today with highs in the low to mid 80s. Tonight partly cloudy with lows in the low 60s. Thursday will be cloudy and humid with a chance of showers or thunderstorms and highs in the 80s.
Virginia Corrections Director Raymond Procunier told the state Board of Corrections that approval of the inmate grievance procedure could make Virginia the first state in the program. If approved, the department would seek delays to allow settlements, and Virginia projects a 75 to 80 percent drop in inmate lawsuits. The board also expanded the Community Diversion Incentive Act to include misdemeanor offenders to ease jail crowding. Prisoner protests over new visitor food restrictions led to a three-prison strike with many inmates returning to work by Tuesday.
Brian R. Showalter of Harrisonburg and Cheryl L. Yoder of Pinto Md received the national I Dare You award at EMHS. The ceremony highlighted their excellence in character and leadership potential. Each student also received a copy of William H Danforth's book I Dare You.
The Virginia Commission on Local Government endorsed the Spotsylvania Fredericksburg annexation deal but urged major changes. It criticized unclear public services plans and favored a detailed transition. It warned a 25 year moratorium could end city annexation powers, while urging free bus service for students and a comprehensive capital plan. The State Supreme Court will appoint the annexation panel.
