Harrisonburg native Marsha Garst defeated incumbent Douglas Stark and Tom Miller on the first ballot at Broadway High School to win the Republican nomination for commonwealth's attorney in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Garst led with 2,023 votes to Stark's 836 and Miller's 620. a 1,743-vote threshold was required. Garst pledged vigorous prosecution and victim rights, while Stark planned to continue cases and facilitate a transition.
