80-Year-Old Schooner Smuggling Marijuana Foiled Off Cape Henry
The 90-foot schooner Moby Dick, built as a Dutch patrol vessel, was towed into port by Coast Guard cutters with about 20 tons of marijuana, a dog, and a parrot aboard. Crew from the vessel were arrested. the ship was deemed stateless and tied to a Dutch owner.

Richmond police say a man and a woman charged with attempted murder of a patrolman are also suspected of several Peninsula robberies. The suspects, Jimmy Lee Johnson and Arlene Edwards, face armed robbery charges in Hampton and Newport News, with additional firearm and related counts in Newport News and Richmond.

Appeals court upholds most awards in Eastern crash case
The 4th U S Circuit Court of Appeals upheld multi million dollar damage awards to crash victims, ruling attorney misconduct did not reasonably inflate them. It granted a new trial for Mrs Weston whose $797 000 award was reduced by judge error, and kept findings that air controllers unlikely to have prevented the crash near Charlotte on September 11, 1974.
