Daughters of Confederacy Chapter Hosts Monthly Session
The United Daughters of the Confederacy Ashby chapter met at 8 o clock in the evening at Mrs. N. Wilson Davis on Campbell Street. New member Ethel Bargleaug Montague of Flushing New York was welcomed and four applicants were referred to the registrar. The educational fund gained two scholarships to State Teachers College Harrisonburg. A Confederate grave marker from Baltimore was discussed. An invitation to memorial services in Broadway June 7 at 5 pm was read. Officers were elected: President Mrs. George Grattan Jr First VP Mrs. John Bolen Second VP Mrs. J L Deter Recording secretary Mrs. Ned Hering Corresponding secretary Mrs. W O Thomas Treasurer Mrs. Hattie Crist Historian Mrs. E D Ott Publicity chairman Mrs. J K Roebush. Hugh Powell spoke on secession in five Southern states Georgia Alabama Florida Louisiana and Texas. Refreshments were served by hostesses Mrs. Ott and Mrs. Lineweaver.
