Mount Jackson Police Officer Chazz Beaver, a Harrisonburg resident, died unexpectedly Monday from a medical event. Be aber's body was escorted to the hospital by regional officers. no foul play suspected. He joined MJPD on December 27 2028 after prior service with Rockingham County and Bridgewater.

Harrisonburg hosts outdoor IFA talk on trees and pollinators
Interfaith Association of Harrisonburg Rockingham held a June meeting at Hillandale Park. Mike Hott and Brittany Clem-Hott led the session in place of Jeremy Harold to highlight Harrisonburg’s Tree City USA status, Urban Forestry and pollinator planting efforts. The group noted ash tree losses to the emerald ash borer, with only 32 large ash trees remaining in parks and more than 1,800 cut down except in wooded areas.
