One of the Valley’s wireless carriers has changed hands as Cellular One was sold to Alltel. The acquisition of Virginia Cellular LLC, the parent company, closed June 1 with no immediate changes planned, according to company officials.
A gunman opened fire at a home west of Charleston, West Virginia, killing three people and critically injuring another before dawn. Two wounded men escaped to a nearby house where neighbors called police around 3 a.m. Authorities identified the shooter and are investigating.
Ali Asad Chandra, 29, a Maryland teacher, was convicted on Tuesday of lending aid to a Pakistani terrorist organization. The government said this marked the 11th conviction in its case against a network that allegedly used paintball games to train for global holy war. He faces up to 45 years in federal prison.

Veterans from the United States and Britain marked the 62nd anniversary of the June 6 1944 landings at Utah Beach and Colleville sur Mer with ceremonies and talks to schoolchildren. U S Ambassador Craig Stapleton and former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge attended the ceremonies, with a new 25 million visitor center slated for next year at the Colleville cemetery.
