Cloudy today with a chance of showers or thunderstorms and highs in the upper 70s. Occasional showers tonight with lows around 60. Saturday cloudy in the morning then partly cloudy by afternoon with highs in the 70s. Normal and historical records for Valley show varied temperatures and rain totals.

Washington AP Donald J Devine withdrew as a nominee for a second term as head of the Office of Personnel Management after telling the Senate committee he could not win confirmation. He cited political differences and GOP opposition as likely to block reconfirmation. Loretta Cornelius, acting director, testified that Devine asked her to lie about knowledge of a signed order transferring agency authority.
