Dirksen Pushes 100 Million For Formosa Aid
Sen. Everett Dirksen says he will push to add 100 million dollars to the foreign aid bill to strengthen Chiang Kai-shek's forces in Formosa. He argues a larger non-Communist Chinese military on alert could deter Red China from intervening in Viet Nam. He noted he discussed the plan with Sen. Fulbright and expects a favorable reaction, though White House reaction is not yet known.

Madison College graduates urged to fund education growth
Madison College’s 56th graduation class of 320 men and women heard Dr. Joseph C. Robert of the University of Richmond say that you cannot get a high quality education with minimal investment. He warned Virginia’s pay as you go plan is a facade and urged a sales tax to raise funds. He noted Virginia ranks 48th in personal income spent on education and 38th in state and local expenditures. Dr. Miller presided as 316 bachelor degrees and three master degrees were awarded with several graduates named for distinction. Continued on page 7 column 4.

Johnson Appeals To Reds At Catholic Univ Commencement
President Johnson urged Communist nations to sign for peace and renounce war in a 21 minute speech at the Catholic University of America commencement. He invited the Soviet Union and Eastern blocs to reason together while noting open doors to peace. About 2,890 attended inside the gymnasium with hundreds outside. He received a second honorary doctor of laws degree, following one at Howard University earlier in the weekend.
