Madison to Construct Buildings at Madison College
Madison College plans a major building program this year with bids opened this summer for a large dining hall and dormitory and for utilities and campus improvements. Tyler Miller and the General Assembly have appropriated over 2.25 million dollars for the project, including a Burruss science hall addition to begin early 1963. Bids for a Grace street parking area for over 100 cars were opened yesterday. M. A. Layman and Sons was the low bidder at 9615 dollars. Work must be finished in 30 days. Subsequent bids will cover rough grading and drainage, parking areas and driveways east of campus, utilities for new buildings, and permanent paving. Dining hall bids open August 15 with 1.16 million dollars allocated. the circular dining hall will seat six groups of 400. Dormitory bids open September 18, with 560 thousand dollars for a 160-bed structure occupying the southeast campus site. Eight more dormitories are planned near Newman Farm. Dining hall completion is set for Sept 1, 1963 and the dormitory 15 days later. Science hall addition bids are due February 16, 1963, with completion by January 1, 1964, funded at 409 thousand dollars.
