German Submarines Continue to Operate on the U S Coast

New York reports two more sinks near Virginia capes adding to a total of thirteen steamers and eight schooners sunk by German submarines along the coast. The U- boats moved southward with limited use of torpedoes, while an earlier claim of three steamers and four schooners sunk by one sub was likely exaggerated. Life losses totaled 16 aboard the Carolina with 329 aboard the ship.

Horses killed in rail yard accident near Harrisonburg

Mr Fedden, a well known Harrisonburg citizen, lost two horses in the railroad Y area of the southern freight yard Tuesday night. One horse was found dead and the other severely injured, later shot. Fedden believes a train struck them.

McGaheysville Virginia June 5 The town hall graduation exercises drew a large crowd and were praised as possibly the best in the school’s history. Nine graduates received diplomas with Miss Frances Thompson Clara Lambert and Gladys Hopkins among the honorees.

Mrs A L Stratford Dead in Richmond Home

Mrs A L Stratford wife of Dr Stratford died abruptly in her chair at their Richmond residence Tuesday night. The 70 year old was a Virginia matron linked to the Tyler family and a Baptist Church member. Funeral services are set in Luray today. She is survived by her husband and one son and is aunt to Mrs M A Long of Linville.

Linville Edom School Finals Held With Graduating Address

Linville Edom School closes a successful term with final exercises Monday night featuring a graduating address by Ward C. Swank of Harrisonburg. Order to Raise Freight Rates May Be Changed

Washington June 4 Special Steps to modify the order raising freight rates by percent to preserve differentials and remove discriminatory provisions were set today by the railroad administration. Changes may occur before June 25 when higher rates take effect. Public utilities commissions from about thirty states met with the Interstate Commerce Commission and Railroad Administration to draft modifications addressing interstate rate injustices and will discuss them with Director General McAdoo at White Sulphur Springs West Virginia, where he is resting.

Breeden Fined $10 in Federal Court Case
