An extended forecast calls for a chance of showers or thunderstorms each day from Saturday through Monday. Highs will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s with overnight lows mainly in the 60s.

Regional foresters are to draft 90 day plans to apply an ecosystem approach across National Forest lands. Robertson calls for sharp cuts in clearcutting, proposing up to a 70 percent reduction from 1988 levels. Clearcutting would only occur if essential to meet forest plan objectives, such as wildlife habitat, land rehabilitation, or disease protection. GW officials say the policy aligns with the forthcoming long range plan, as they assess about 4,000 public comments and plan another meeting next month to report responses. Washington AP House appropriations subcommittee earmarked 483.7 million for the supercollider next year, 167 million less than President Bush's proposed funding. Rep. Joe Barton of Texas voiced disappointment, calling it the first inning behind in the long financing game as the collider's price tops 8.25 billion.
