Madison College holds thirteenth annual commencement
The thirteenth annual commencement exercises at Madison College begin today in Wilson Auditorium at 10 a.m. Dr. Katherine Rogers Adams of Washington will deliver the commencement address before diplomas and degrees are awarded by President Samuel P. Duke. Rev. Beverly T. White will preside at the invocation.

Berlin June 4. Hitler telegraphs King George VI to express regret over the loss of the British submarine Thetis and to extend German sympathy to the relatives of the victims. The cablegram details were not disclosed.

UAW Votes to Reform with AFL After Poll Vote
The independent United Automobile Workers union, led by Homer Martin, voted 66 768 in favor and 3 270 opposed to reaffiliate with the American Federation of Labor. Massanutten Academy Holds Commencement at Lantz Hall
Graduating exercises at Massanutten Academy in Lantz Hall were followed by a homebound cadet exodus. A commencement ball in Virginia Harrison gymnasium drew attendees from six states and local Valley residents. Cadet awards went to Kenneth L Sanford William Hilfinger William Gillespie Edward Degan William Galaday and Edmund Tucker among others with honors in Latin German French and debate. Mrs Howard J Benchoff hosted a breakfast for patrons at Camp Lupton and a music recital and band concert followed in the afternoon.

Blazing Motor Ignites Warehouse at Harrisonburg
A motor in the Harrisonburg Candy and Fruit Company warehouse on West Market Street overheated and caught fire yesterday at 11 am. The blaze filled the building with smoke and scorched floor joists while employees offered little explanation for the motor’s heat. Firefighters cooled it with chemicals then a elevator equipment, and the power line was disconnected. A passerby alerted the fire department, and Officer W C Early assisted in opening a door for access. Mr Tariy was summoned to the scene.
