Danville Virginia AP report says secretary Gail Richardson hid under a boat dock after being shot by Alice Marie Garrett Anderson 55 wife of slain attorney George B. Anderson 56 who then killed Anderson and fatally wounded herself and shot Richardson before dying. The incident occurred at Andersons Caswell County North Carolina home near Wildwood Lake. Authorities say six shots were fired and autopsies were ordered in Chapel Hill. Richardson survived with injuries to back and foot.
The Harrisonburg Rotary Club announces its antique show will open Friday and run through Sunday at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. A previous Saturday story had given incorrect dates for the event.
Virginia Tech will graduate 1,386 engineering students as part of 4,900 total undergrad and grad graduates. The class includes Eileen Lynch of Mahwah New Jersey who will join Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in August with a 27000 dollar annual salary and options for further study.
Virginia Tech officials backed most findings of an internal audit that faulted the physical plant department for hiring too few women and minorities from July 1980 through October 1982. The report cited adverse impact beyond custodial hiring, missing employment forms, and limited awareness of openings and promotions, with 410 workers in late 1982 and 55 non custodial positions lacking female or minority applicants for over half the roles.
