Snow is predicted today for Montana and the Dakotas as well as from northern Virginia to northern New York. Flurries are expected with light accumulations in some areas and possible brief bursts of snowfall. Travelers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility in affected regions.
Cloudy today with a chance of rain that may begin as snow or freezing rain. Highs around the lower 40s in the afternoon. Partial clearing tonight into Tuesday with lows near 30 to the mid 30s. Highs later in the 40s.
The Associated Press reports seven people died in Virginia traffic accidents over the Christmas holiday weekend. Fatalities occurred across several counties including Page, Louisa, Frederick, Martinsville, Norfolk, Shenandoah, and Mount Jackson, with National Safety Council estimates predicting hundreds more deaths nationwide over the three-day period.
In Naples two masked men with sawed-off shotguns entered an isolated villa near Naples early Sunday and killed Pasquale Tafuro a 42 year old former convict tied to gangland crime. Tafuro is the 231st known victim in the Naples gang war this year.
Governor John Dalton argues the GOP defeat was not due to black voters but to failing to hold a moderate to conservative coalition. He says the June convention choice over Bateman for lieutenant governor and the party’s direction alienated conservatives, while stressing that blacks have a place in the party and that the defeat reflected broader alignment issues.
Richmond AP report says Gov elect Charles Robb will not reappoint any of outgoing Gov John Dalton's cabinet secretaries. WEET Radio cited a Robb transition source but did not name replacements. Robb will announce his cabinet Tuesday at a 9 am news conference in Richmond.
