Two Juveniles Die In Early Morning House Fire Near Mount Crawford
A Monday fire at 427 Captain Shands Road south of Mount Crawford killed two male juveniles. Fire crews arrived around 5:05 a.m. and found heavy smoke with the fire on the second floor of a two story home. Six of eight occupants escaped. five survivors were taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center for evaluation. Identity of the victims was not released pending positive ID.

Fire destroys Elkton mixed use building. 18 homeless
A four alarm Christmas Eve blaze gutted a two story apartment retail building at 303 307 W Spotswood Trail in Elkton. 18 people in 10 households were left homeless as Rockingham County Fire and Rescue and local agencies provided shelter and aid. Firefighters rescued occupants over nearly two hours with one resident treated and released, others given assistance by the EAUS and Red Cross. The cause remains undetermined as investigators continue.
