A band of snow and flurries is predicted today extending from parts of Minnesota and Iowa eastward into the Northeast. Flurries are likely in Montana Idaho Wyoming and Utah, with rain in the Pacific Northwest and the mid Atlantic coast.

Griff Tiller thought hope was lost after his son Air Force 1st Lt. Thomas W. Tiller vanished with his F4E jet off North Carolina on Dec 18. A shrimp boat found him in a one man raft 45 miles southeast of Charleston on Christmas Eve, exhausted but alive after six days adrift with emergency rations. The family, including Lt. Mattson, awaits further word as the search resumes and prayers continue.
In Hastings Brighton and Bournemouth Britons swam in the English Channel on Christmas Day despite near freezing temps. About 30 in Hastings 20 in Brighton 40 in Bournemouth many spectators cheered and one swimmer wore a Santa outfit. Afterward they warmed with tea and bookmakers then shortened odds on a white Christmas fading as clear dry weather continued.

Lafayette police say Terry Hollis, 30, held his wife Diana hostage for over four hours on Christmas Eve. A special weapons team deployed tear gas into the home after neighbors reported a struggle. Hollis, armed with a .25 caliber pistol, was found at the bottom of a stairs with a fractured skull and remained hospitalized. Diana Hollis was unharmed.
