State Forced To Lay Off Rehabilitation Workers
In Richmond the Department of Rehabilitative Services said a $2.3 million deficit from inflation and reduced federal funds forces 60 layoffs. The department expects to serve about 22,000 people this year, down from 38,000, with 3,378 fewer receiving training and therapy. Layoffs include 14 central office staff and are based mainly on seniority, with full effect possible after four months as staff are reassigned.

Search Continues For Plane Wreck In North Carolina
Rescuers in Lumberton and the North Carolina Civil Air Patrol pressed on Monday in a search for a possible Beechcraft Sierra wreck missing since December 1 on a Jacksonville to New York flight. The CAP said a Virginia CAP focus was around Huddersfield while crews in South Carolina also searched. Ken Wade and Doris Vanwaldick were named as pilot and passenger in the missing flight.
