Plan to widen I-81 in Harrisonburg approved
The Commonwealth Transportation Board endorsed a three lane per direction widening of I-81 between mile markers 243 and 248 through Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. The plan, part of the Interstate 81 corridor study, moves to the 2019 General Assembly for consideration. Funding options include fuel tax, sales tax, or tolls.

Harrisonburg man guilty of murder in 2017 shooting
Olmedo Pena Pinedo, 26, was found guilty in Rockingham County Circuit Court of first degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and use of a firearm in a 2017 Hunters Ridge apartment shooting that killed 18 year old Kaman Imani. Jurors recommended life plus 18 years. Sentencing set for March 1.
