Woman shot dead in Rockingham County
A 38 year old woman Laurie Anne Shifflett was found dead at her Spotswood Trail home near Elkton on Monday night in a suspected murder and possible death by own action. Her husband Fred Shifflett twenty six is in serious condition after a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators found two weapons at the scene as relatives arrived and police prepared to search the home pending a warrant. Sheriff Farley said it was too early for charges and they are treating it as a possible double homicide.
