Appellate Court Upholds Death Penalty Conviction
A three judge panel unanimously upholds the 2006 murder for hire conviction of Ivan Teleguz in Rockingham County Circuit Court. Teleguz, a Ukrainian national and former resident, was sentenced to death for the killing of his ex girlfriend Stephanie Sipe in July 2001. Sipe was found with her throat slashed at her Deer Run apartment. her 2 year old son was unharmed. Prosecutors say Teleguz killed Sipe to avoid child support. The 4th Circuit was reviewing whether a federal judge erred in upholding the conviction.
