A band of rain is predicted today stretching from the Dakotas east to Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Snow is likely in parts of Washington, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada.

Leonard H. Davis Jr., former manager at the Naval Supply Center, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years’ prison on three felony counts, all but 30 days suspended. Davis admitted accepting cash gifts totaling 300 dollars from contractor James B. Harrison in 1981 while overseeing 160 employees. Harrison Hauling’s president, Harrison, FBI informant, testified to 15 cash handoffs recorded by the FBI. Davis, 56, was fired Dec 23 1981 and faces likely pension loss after final Merit Systems ruling.
Norton Virginia voters approved a liquor by the drink referendum by 67 votes. The 522 to 455 tally allows restaurants to serve mixed drinks, with beer and wine already permitted.
The M T Brackhill Planetarium at Eastern Mennonite College hosts The Bethlehem Star at 2 30 p m this Sunday and Dec 12 and 19. The 30 minute program blends constellations of the winter sky with gospel Christmas accounts poetry art slides and Christmas music. EMC physics professor John L Horst offers theories on the star's appearance. The D R Hostetter Museum next to the planetarium is open 2 3 30 p m on the same days. Both venue and museum are free and open to the public. Special showings for groups can be arranged by calling 433 2771 Ext 400.
