Bridgewater Little League All-Stars chase a regional final win in Florida to reach the Little League World Series. Town buzz grows from offices to barber shops as locals celebrate the team’s heart and potential.
The Bridgewater All-Stars meet North Carolina at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 in a Little League Regional Tournament. The winner advances to the Little League World Series.
Shenandoah Manufacturing Co in Harrisonburg will close within six months after CTB International Corp completes its purchase. CTB, a farm equipment maker, bought nearly all assets, fired 115 workers, and invited some to reapply. Final financial terms were not disclosed. Shenandoah reported 2001 sales around $15 million.
A multi vehicle crash on I-81 south of Staunton near mile marker 220 in Augusta County halted traffic for hours. Three semis and two cars collided causing hazardous material concerns. Fire crews and VDOT worked to contain oil leaks, empty a tanker, and assess battery and chemical hazards before lane reopening.
Firefighters contained the Stumphole Fire after more than a week burning 158 acres in Shenandoah County southeast of Edinburg. Beverly Hills California Charlton Heston disclosed that doctors say he shows symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease in a taped statement at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The 78 year old actor said he will not give up and may not be able to speak in the future.

A powerful explosion at a private maintenance facility of the Afghan Construction and Logistics Unit in Jalalabad killed up to 25 people and injured about 90. The blast damaged 50 homes, 500 others, and disrupted power and nearby infrastructure including the Doronto dam. Authorities blamed terrorists but noted it could be an accidental detonation.
