Mrs. Barbara Phalen and her daughter Miss Mildred of Brunswick Maryland arrived Saturday to be guests in the home of Capt. and Mrs. T. H. Phalen on North Liberty Street.
Cleveland beats New York 3 to 2 as Detroit topples Washington 6 to 1. Toronto splits with Syracuse 4 to 3 and 3 to 3. Reading defeats Providence 8 to 4. Rochester 4-3 over Buffalo 7-2. Jersey City loses to Baltimore 1 to 2 and Baltimore improves to 10-3.
Walter Johnson pitched effectively for Washington as the Senators defeated Detroit 6 to 1 in the second game of the series. Johnson limited Detroit to two hits and led a late surge with an RBI single by Jones. McNeely’s wild throw allowed Blue to score Detroit’s run and he later stole home as Wells held the ball for Detroit. This marked Johnson’s second two hit game of the season and moved Washington within one game of idle Athletics.
Washington star Walter Johnson marked his 18th big league anniversary by defeating the Detroit Tigers who once challenged him. Johnson, who debuted in 1907, held Tigers to two singles and one run, while Ty Cobb was among the players. Senators won 6 to 1.

On return they stop in Morrisville NJ to visit Mrs Miller's parents Mr and Mrs William Regan. Miss Marguerite Harrison RN of Washington spent several days with her sister Miss Lucile Harrison. Miss Margaret Spicer and Frank Offenbacker of Baltimore visit Mrs J L Armentrout and his parents Mr and Mrs Offenbacker. Misses Carter and Rath Cover returned from Edinburg visit with Josephine Hutcheson and Roshlie Ott of Harrisonburg. W E Deal returns from visit to friends and relatives in Lu ray. Mrs A B Cover Mrs W T Hall Mrs Herbert Cover and Miss Ruth McCorkle of Harrisonburg have spent time at Atlantic City. Miss McCorkle returns to Harrisonburg. others to return Monday.
In Bologne France heavy seas delay Gertrude Ederle, the American girl swimmer, from possibly starting her English Channel attempt early Monday. Forecasters report rough conditions all day and into the evening.
It was decided that unless there was a great change Miss Edette would not be in the swimming event.
Miss Hannah Sheldon Ralston a nurse in training at Johns Hopkins Hospital spent her vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs B F Ralston Mrs W F Myers of Mount Clinton is visiting her daughter Mrs W O Mowbray Ford Hess of Tintom placed a monument in the cemetery there this week to the memory of Mrs David Ritchie Grace Lloyd Davis and daughter of Marlinton W Va visiting Rev and Mrs J W Brill
