A wireless message from Miami reports 45 persons adrift in small boats between Forney Rock Lighthouse and Cape Florida about 15 miles from Miami. They are in distress with no food or water, likely crew from sunken ships in yesterday's hurricane. Boats have departed to rescue them.
Key West Florida reports daylight reveals the hurricane devastation with every home damaged or wrecked. The dredge Canous losses include ten rescued, one body recovered, three missing. Vessels including the British tanker Tonawanda and liner Comal suffered mooring breaks. Gas and electricity outages halted service. telephones and newspapers suspended.
Major Samuel W. Fleming Jr is slated to receive the Croix de Guerre awarded by France. The medal, shipped to the local recruiting office, is likely to be presented at the Homecoming Celebration on September 28 and 29. Fleming, previously Captain and Regimental Adjutant of the 815th Infantry, 79th Division, was seriously wounded November 8 1918 but refused evacuation and remained in battalion command until the armistice.

Old passenger car in the Leb anon branch of the Philadelphia division was sent west after years of service. Car cleaners on the Lebanon branch found a land turtle beneath an old water cooler during a cleaning. The shell bore the inscription Missouri 1860.

Thomas C. Legurn was shot to death early Tuesday by Sim Velco. Legurn had a Detroit wife and four children, with relatives arriving from Hartford, Connecticut. Emma Noll, living at 1024 Market Street, was believed by neighbors to be his wife. Velco received a preliminary police court hearing with Alderman De Shong presiding. Steven, charged as an accessory before and after the shooting, faces hearing at the same session. Both suspects are held without bail.
