Mount Gretna June 29. Pennsylvania soldiers at a historic camp give up baseball for vaccination and drill. Recruits face medical exams, mustering, and strict discipline as officers push to ready troops for service, while some regiments equip men with mosquito netting and fly-killers.
Moran seeks volunteers in the Eighth Pennsylvania infantry National Guard to fill Companies D and I. Thomas P. Moran, veteran, at 36 North Third Street invites eligible men to join, as local recruiting lines reopen after officers left for Mt. Gretna. Each company trails its 150-man war quota by about thirty. recruiting may drop further after medical exams.
