Automobile Vital Link in Transportation System
It is now pretty generally realized that the automobile is a vital link in the transportation system of America. In 1915 automobiles carried 3,000,000 more people than the railroads, and forthcoming official figures will confirm the rise. To maintain national efficiency, enough cars must be built to replace those worn out annually. There are about 5,000,000 passenger automobiles in the United States, requiring about 850,000 new ones each year. Curtailment would depress farm and suburban land values and impede daily work and patriotic efforts. An automobile of the Dort class is an economic necessity, with depreciation, operating and maintenance costs yielding a favorable return.
