Berlin reports a British battle cruiser was heavily damaged and sunk by German torpedo boats after accurate cannon fire. German airship observers also saw two British torpedo boats sunk and damage to other English ships during the North Sea action west of Heligoland.

Carlisle Pa January 26 Cumberland county court granted liquor licenses to eighteen applicants with no remonstrances and refused two others. Tes timony is being heard today in twelve other cases with remonstrances filed. Thirty two licenses were requested countywide and the two refusals were Frederick Brenneman for the Hogestown hotel and Harry C Gill of Philadelphia for the Mount Holly Inn at Mount Holly Springs.
Special to The Telegraph of Dauphin Pennsylvania reports Miss Sarah Jones aged about 84 fell on stairs at her cousin George Dennison’s home one mile from town. She tripped on the second step, struck her head, and lay unconscious as blood streamed from a scalp wound. Dr A C Coble treated her with eight stitches. she remains bed-bound with a deep scalp cut and a badly bruised arm.
The Mathematics and Astronomy Department of the Natural History Society meets tonight at 8 in the Willard School building State Street near Third. Chairman M W Jacobs Jr will speak on Useful Shortcuts in Ordinary Arithmetic and Some Remarkable Numbers. The Board of Directors convenes at 7 to decide questions about the upcoming lecture by Sir Douglas Mawson.

Captain Charles H.
