The federal revenue act raises prices on cigars cigarettes beer and spirits across Harrisburg. A new floor tax adds one cent per ten for soft drinks and ice cream, with barrooms and retailers scrambling to adjust prices to cover the higher levies.
Arrangements were made for hearings on March 11 by the Senate and House games and fish committees on bills affecting game and fish codes and sports. The Wild Life League organizes the meetings open to conservation and sportsmen groups. The House Ways and Means Committee will also hear a fishermen license bill that day. An auxiliary game preserve bill is expected to be introduced next week. Pall dead in hotel. Emanuel Fields, city highway department employee, died this morning at the Hotel Acme. Heart disease listed as probable cause. Fields resided at 16 Brown Street.
In Paris on February 26, Marie Les cont a 22 year old dressmaker was found not guilty by the Seine et Marne assizes after she killed her German born child by severing its foot vein while the babe was bleeding to death She argued it was not a crime to kill such a child.

The enacted tax raises beer, whiskey, and tobacco prices with cigars at one dollar per thousand. Higher grade whiskey costs thirty cents per small drink, while soft drinks incur a ten percent tax. Five cent soda water faces a one cent levy, passed on by retailers.

A three man committee named by President Enders will survey Camp Curtin school building undergoing remodeling into a junior high. They will investigate Director Capp's charges that the building is not fire safe. The panel, whose members are not publicly identified, may influence future fire proofing policy.
Pennsylvania moves to issue up to 50 million dollars in road bonds under a constitutional amendment. The bill sets interest not above 4.5 percent for thirty years, with funds to Build primary highways and managed by the Governor, State Treasurer, and Auditor General.
Representatives from hunting clubs and deer camps in Central Pennsylvania endorsed the current game code at a meeting. Some members favored opening the small game season now and shortening the bear season. A Central Pennsylvania Games League was planned and a regulations committee was named for action at the March 3 meeting.

Henry Johnson, a transient resident of Harrisburg, admitted to breaking into Garner's Clothing and Furnishing Store on North Third Street around 6 am, smashing a plate glass window with a brick and stealing about one hundred dollars worth of goods including a green mackinaw and multiple garments. Detectives traced him via Nathan's pawn shop where he sold the items for four dollars. several dealers refused to buy the loot. Merchants fear rising window breaking thefts and seek protective measures.
37 dozen eggs owned by Cumberland county farmer Nalen were smashed at his Chestnut street market stand after 9 pm last night. A jar of pudding and butter were damaged but nothing stolen. Five boys were arrested and later cleared. more arrests expected as police investigate.
The Senate will renew discussion on the proposed League of Nations constitution today. Senator Williams of Mississippi requested President Wilsons Boston address be inserted in the Congressional Record. Senators Owen of Oklahoma and Cummins of Iowa plan to speak on the league.
The House approved the road building bill without appropriation after Senate passage. It reorganizes the Highway Department, raises some salaries, and gives the Governor appointment powers to create a more flexible agency. The measure now goes to the Governor for approval.
Military police deny published charges from Harrisburg colored residents alleging MPs insulted Black churchgoers. An investigation found the claims were based upon disputed events and the MPs said they cooperate with all races to keep peace.
Weimar debate over the Reichswehr bill ends with Noske stating the force will protect eastern frontiers from Bolshevik threat. The bill, to be read a third time, limits manpower to under one third of the old army. In Greece, Greek, French, and Romanian detachments push Bolsheviks from the Dniester region, seizing Tiraspol. In the far east, Japanese and Bolshevik clash near Blagoveshchensk with Japanese losses.
The Penn-Harris Hotel completes grill room work and plans to have all rooms in service this week. Sleeping rooms and lounge areas are open with minor furnishings left. The Third Street coffee room will open soon, drawing inquiries from patrons and committees that used the hotel for events.
Harrisburg Mayor Daniell L. Keister will attend a Washington conference of mayors and governors next week to discuss postwar labor and commercial conditions. The gathering opens Monday at 10 in the White House East Room, with Secretary Wilson and federal officials offering remedies and urging resumption of construction and business. The program includes a talk by John G. Herndon of Guaranty Trust Company on income tax and revenue laws for Dauphin County Bar and Harrisburg Banking Association members.
Coblenz Feb 26 The German delivering commission informed the American receiving commission that the Spartacans in unoccupied Germany interfered with transport of the fifteen heavy caliber guns delaying their delivery. Germany has delivered 107 large guns and five long range guns on railroad trucks. the fifteen will complete the big gun deliveries.
The Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce endorses keeping the Daylight Saving Law and sent telegrams to Senators Penrose Knox and Representative Kreider urging them to oppose repeal. Mayor Keister also supports the retention, noting the extra recreation time for city residents and urging civic groups to back the effort.
President Wilson planned to attend Capitol briefings to push major appropriation bills and other legislation before adjournment next Tuesday. Democratic floor leader Senator Martin urged rapid action and asked committees to curb speeches, with Hitchcock and Owen told to abandon prepared League of Nations addresses.
The Eyre Senate bill allowing third class city voters to approve loan transfers and the Harrisburg measure to move 300 000 dollars from Walnut Street Bridge funds to the memorial bridge approach project passed the House on first reading. No opposition was noted and support is expected to continue, aided by Chester County Senator and Lieutenant Governor Edward E Beldleman.
