The Home and War Relief committee reports more than 400 city families assisted, with over 4 000 dollars paid out in two months. About 2 000 more is needed to continue to April 1, all funds staying in Harrisburg. Wages account for two thirds of expenditures, with the rest buying local supplies.
Mr and Mrs Victor A Ibach of 1845 Herr Street allege a husband seeking letter sent to the Los Angeles mayor months ago was signed with Ruth N Paine initials R N P the Ibachs former name.
A flood warning from the Water Supply Commission of Pennsylvania estimates the Susquehanna River will reach about seventeen feet tomorrow afternoon. Umberger secretary of the City Planning Commission explains why planning commissioners did not attend the city commissioners meeting when the ordinance authorizing leasing part of Hargest's Island to Harrisburg Light and Power for a coal wharf was passed. The council had delayed final action a week and had invited planning commission members and representatives of the electric company to the meeting.
Paris reports that after the war mobilization, French industry shows recovery. Labor Minister Martin notes employment now runs about 20 percent below normal, with 31,000 establishments employing over one million people. The number of open factories rose 43 percent and workers 83 percent since mobilization ended.
Dispatches from Geneva via Paris report continued Soviet successes as fighting rages in the Carpathians. Austro German forces are said to have lost 3,000 more at Dukla Pass while melting snow at Uzsok Pass uncovered 7,000 bodies of Austrians and Russians.
The Dacia, sailing from Norfolk February 11 with cotton, has nearly finished crossing the Atlantic toward Rotterdam despite fears of British seizure. Reports say by February 23 she was 400 miles west of Lands End and would pass through the Channel to Rotterdam if unimpeded. In Paris, 5000 francs were raised for the crew of the second light squadron ship that sunk a German submarine at Boulogne.
