Berlin confirms United States sailors held on the Yarrowdale were released after official word reached Germany that American ships in the United States had not been confiscated and crews were not interned. The report notes freedom followed German acknowledgment of these facts.
Five Americans were aboard the Swedish steam ship Skogland sunk by a German submarine off Tarragona Spain after the crew took to boats. The vessel had 1837 tons net and sailed from Norfolk January 26 for Bagnoli Italy. The five named Americans were James Braner Leo Cartright Jack Burke Jay Lewis and Joseph Brown.
Washington February 22. Railroads with the Interstate Commerce Commission ordered expedited coal and coke shipments to eighteen Middle Western cities. Officials say freight car shortages have eased and the feared national food and fuel shortage lessens, despite warnings of potential price hikes if supplies do not loosen.
Counsel for Samuel Taylor notified County Solicitor Philip 8 Singler that a check for 8 dollars, dated February 5, remains on his desk. The item covers duplications in Taylor's sworn statement for Jury Commissioner services, with two items rejected by the County Commissioners. The delay was due to other business. The check covers duplications for services March and August 19, 1916.

Southern department headquarters announced additional dates for the homeward movement of state troops from the border. The schedule covers the first of two contingents among about 50,000 guardsmen. Notable entries include C Battery New Jersey field artillery at Douglas on March 7 and Third Pennsylvania field artillery at El Paso on March 15.

Havana reports on three days without fighting as both sides amass near Camaguey. Colonel Pujol is said to have crossed into Camaguey province and may attack the city tomorrow while Santiago de Cuba is to be held by rebels until Camaguey is cleared. An American steamer from Jamaica to New York may rescue Americans from Santiago. President Monocle reportedly plans an amnesty proclamation for soldiers and civilians who lay down arms.
Final arrangements for the permanent organization of the Tri-County Association Improved Order of Red Men were completed at a Warriors Wigwam meeting in Harrisburg. Representatives from Perry Cumberland and Dauphin counties elected temporary officers and appointed a organizing by laws committee. The next meeting will be March 8 in Steelton.
City health officials led by Commissioner Gross warned Sara Gardner of the Pennsylvania Reduction Company to begin a citywide cleanup next week or the city will assume the work. The notice followed a long health bureau conference including Dr J M Raunick and Oliver Keller.
New York February twenty second. Evidence pointing to wide ramifications of an alleged German spy plot will be laid before the federal grand jury meeting here. The Justice Department seeks to probe methods used to obtain American passports by aliens not entitled to them. First cases to come before the jury involve Albert Sander and Karl W Wannenberg accused of violating neutrality laws by sending men abroad to obtain British war secrets for Germany. Federal officials are seeking other persons involved in the conspiracy. Three men now under arrest, one in England and two in Holland, will be brought here as witnesses.
