County commissioners expect a complete report from T Ellsworth Davies the mining expert who surveyed the coal fields not later than Saturday. A communication has been sent urging him to attend Friday or Saturday to submit the report in person. After consideration valuations may rise and coal companies will be notified. Appeals will follow and court decisions will settle disputed cases.
Jamdon February 12. The Miners Federation of Great Britain meeting at Southport rejects government terms. Federation with hundred thousand members seeks a six hour day and a thirty percent wage rise. President Smillie announces the committee’s decision against acceptance. The conference votes to reject terms and to consider next steps. The government cites rising production costs and offers a one shilling a day boost to the war bonus.
City sealer notes general food prices stationary in Harrisburg. Eggs and butter have fallen while greens edge upward. Wholesale price hikes not yet reflected in retail meat prices. Fresh meats in local markets quoted below dealer levels.
