Peach harvest success despite frost and hail in Gillespie County
The 1973 peach season in Gillespie County yielded about 100000 bushels with an average price near 5.00 per bushel. Peaches brought in roughly half a million dollars to local orchards, with about 75 percent considered outside money. The season also saw strong fruit crops in apples, plums and pears despite hail and damage to several Stonewall area orchards.
