Mr and Mrs Otto Zimmermann have purchased Sunnyside Tavern a drive in and dancing venue eight years after originally built by Walter Hollmig and later owned by S M Johnson. They leased it since 1947 and plan to operate it with their two sons and staff, continuing the existing setup while residents wish them success in Fredericksburg.
Gillespie county rancher Nolan Althaus near his northeast county home drilled a well that began seven years ago and reached an underground stream at 357 feet. Water rose within 60 feet of the surface, with granite 348 feet drilled through after nine feet of earth.
Gillespie County Commissioners Court approved employing the county attorney to collect all outstanding accounts due the county for services such as road work and tank building. A suit will follow after notices are issued. The court also approved Gilbert Kaderli as public weigher in Justice Precinct No. 1 and wrapped up routine reports.
The Department of Commerce reported from Washington that newsprint remains scarce through 1948 and the shortage will continue. The report said the supply situation plagues both the industry and consumers with little immediate relief in sight.
