Necessary Safety Precautions Outlined To Keep Outdoor Fires Under Control

Outdoor fires pose a major risk of spreading when not properly managed. The National Board of Fire Underwriters lists eight rules: burn only where permitted, avoid windy days, clear a 33 foot zone, connect a garden hose, use a covered metal container for trash, keep fires away from structures and overhanging branches, supervise children, and never leave a fire unattended until fully dead. Proper extinguishing involves watering, stirring, dampening, and checking the area is cool to touch.
