Jerry Baumann 21, son of Mr and Mrs Hugo Baumann of Marble Falls, was commissioned Second Lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill Oklahoma on August 29. He plans to become a pilot after a brief artillery instruction post. Attending were Norman Baumann Charlotte Baumann Genabeth Mayes Delores Mayes and Geneva Mayes of Marble Falls. He is grandson of Mrs Ethel Reed and Mrs Henry Baumann.
Rev and Mrs C P Owen will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Monday October 9 from 7 to 9 pm in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church Kerrville. Friends from Harper invited. No gifts requested.
Harper Lions Club met October 3 with President Doerr presiding. Clayton Massey, on the RC and D executive committee for Gillespie and Blanco counties, spoke on purpose organization and functions. Clark Bierschwale was elected Harper director. A banquet observing Lions International 50th anniversary was discussed for Kerrville October 16 at 7 30 p m. The club voted $35 to the Hurricane Disaster Fund and planned District cabinet meeting in Harper November 5 with expected 200 attendees.
Six Gillespie County 4 H clubs enroll a total of 210 members with 46 adult leaders. The clubs meet monthly at Doss School Legion Hall District Court School Stonewall School Pilot Knob Pecan Creek and other venues. Officers and leaders names are listed for each club and a county 4 H council includes club presidents and delegates. An annual 4 H achievement banquet is planned for November 6 at the Community Savings Center Hall.
Mr and Mrs Lester A Pearson of Kerrville announce the engagement of their daughter Peggy Ann to Calvin Kurt Jung of Harper. Both are employed at Mooney Aircraft, Kerrville. The couple plans to marry November 4 at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg.
The Harper Chapter Young Homemakers of Texas will meet on Tuesday October 10 at 3 pm in the Homemaking Room at Harper School. J D Stein of Fredericksburg will demonstrate Papier Mache Jewelry. All women in the community are invited. A benefit Tupperware Party is planned for Wednesday October 18 with details to follow.
Two Masonic lodges Rising Star 429 Center Point and Fredericksburg 794 will receive Honor Roll Awards from The Grand Lodge of Texas for outstanding attendance in the Spring Masonic Workshop series. The event Thursday October 12 at 8 00 p m at the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge will feature Kermit Z Schnelle of San Antonio presenting the awards and chairing the meeting with Kendall Lodge 397 of Boerne invited to attend.
The Band Boosters will meet Tuesday October 11 at the cafe forum at 2 30 p.m. all members are urged to attend.
A list of high school football scores includes Karper 69 over Medina 14 and St Marys 30 over Blanco 6, along with several other matchups such as South San 28 Battlin Billies 0 and San Marcos 2s 2s. VA Houston official says Public Law 90-77 extends GE loan eligibility to veterans with long WWI service. Final cut date moved from 1987 to 1970 and applies to all World War II veterans with service disabilities. Widows of veterans who died in military service also qualify. VA urges eligible veterans to apply.
President Lyndon B. Johnson and Mrs Johnson with daughter Lynda and fiancé Captain Charles S Robb attend St Barnabas in Fredericksburg for 9 am service while a weekend guest Marine Captain William D Davidson stands with the party. The First Family also observed services at St Francis Xavier in Stonewall as Beulah recovery visits unfold across Texas. The president returns to Washington after inspecting the South Texas disaster area and addressing senators and representatives in San Antonio.
Explorers from Camp Gary San Marcos and the Indian Dance team will perform at the Doss Troop 1 Court of Honor on Sunday October 5. Ronald Faught and a masked scout will become Eagle Scouts, presented by E B Ramsey and other Austin and Burnet officials as the public is invited to attend the ceremony and potluck supper.
A Social Security official explains remarried widows aged 60 or over may continue to receive benefits. The remarried widow’s benefit equals half of the former husband’s retirement amount or the higher amount from a current husband if applicable. Previously, remarriage ended widow benefits.
The Hill Country Memorial Hospital trustees increased from 11 to 24 at a September meeting. The 133 new trustees from all Gillespie County areas accepted responsibility to oversee funds raised by more than 2400 contributors for community benefit. The 24 named members will set policy and oversee the hospital’s largest community effort.
The sixth annual Edwards Plateau Historical Association meeting will be held Saturday October 21 at the Historic Building Mason hosted by the Mason County Historical Society.
