LBJ Birthplace Historic Site Bill Advances in Congress

The House passed a bill to create a national historic site for Lyndon B. Johnson's birthplace and boyhood home. The two Johnson City, Texas properties would be donated to the government with possible inclusion of the LBJ Ranch later. $180,000 is authorized for rehabilitation and visitor facilities, with annual operation costs around $120,000.

Hunters bag many deer in area despite lack of weather data

Deer totals reach 28 by Sunday with 29 does and 13 turkeys reported in two cold storage plants though exact kill counts remain unclear. Mrs. Edwin Petsch of Fredericksburg limits out in about 15 minutes on opening day, then takes a second buck. A notable 13 pointer led on antlers, and dogs aided recovery of a wounded deer while Becker and Nelson locate a missing dog and dressed deer for camp.
