Wendell Willkie praises Christian missionaries for creating a reservoir of friendship worldwide. He cites hospitals, schools, and colleges founded by Americans and says many world leaders studied under American teachers. Dr. Stanley I. Stuber notes 234 Baptist missionaries on foreign fields despite Burma expulsions. American-born Japanese students withdraw from West Coast schools by military order.
Preaching services at 11 a m and 7 30 p m Sunday school at 10 a m Cooperative Mission Study Class meets Sunday afternoon with Rev J H Meredith teaching. New district formed head Kerrville. Rev Harold L Goodenough named District Superintendent Rev Harold G Cooke now in San Angelo. Remove Uvalde Llano districts. Mass times vary with Sundays and German services noted. Sunday gatherings at the Maurer residence included Pvt. Hubert Maurer of Fort Sam Houston and numerous Maurer relatives from Kerrville, San Antonio, and beyond. Other visitors spanned families of Jones, Seiders, Gammenthaler, Fowler, and Bode with extended travels and weekend stays across local ties.
Mrs. Lemuel Jones of Junction and her mother Mrs. Ollie Parker visited in Junction. Mrs. August Kirchhoff and daughter Helen were in Harper Friday and visited Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Rahe. Mr. and Mrs. Romeo Dabney of Bracketville and Mrs. Ed Dabney of Austin are here visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Johnie Sellers and their young son spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. William Cosper.

A child Donald Bode was hospitalized Saturday for medical treatment.
White Bluff locals Ida Celeta Honig and others visit friends in N A Thurman home and Junction. Families from Fredericksburg Kerrville Harper and Elgin appear as visitors and shoppers. Sam Scarborough hosts birthday party for his son with classmates. The First State Bank of Harper closes Wednesday November 11 for Armistice Day observance.
October rainfall across Gillespie County exceeded the monthly average and topped six years of records. Alfred Neffendorf reports a total of 6.05 inches in October, up from 5.43 last year, with historical figures of 3.53 in 1940 and 3.88 in 1939. Temperature highs reached 87 on October 2, while lows touched 41 on the 26th and 31st.
